At GoreCore for JC’s birthday celebrations. We’ve been to Lambs Go Bar to celebrate but now it’s chilling out at GoreCore for the evening. Very silly happenings to be sure…

Yes, definitely feeling happier now :)

We’re in the middle of setting up Zone Edit as our secondary DNS and mail system. It involves purchasing credits towards each domain (2 per domain – one for DNS, one for mail) but they’re reliable and seem to be able to handle what they’re doing. Also, APC are using them and they’ve recommended them to us. So, off we go to check it out.

Meanwhile, we’ve been working on setting up RLHP with a Movable Type installation.

So much more to do – so little time to do it.

Got to admit to feeling a little run down and sad at the moment :(

It all just sorta hit me last night – lack of funds, racing around the place trying to do too much, not sure how I’ll manage to keep it all together, etc. Started playing Officium – 14th/15th century vocal ensemble meets saxophone – really out there stuff – the voices sound like the backing music from any Rivendell scene in Lord of the Rings while the sax just wails out over the top. Very emotional stuff and when you’re in a funk, that plus a good hit of vodka and a balcony where you can watch the stars really hits the spot.

Of course, playing the music at midnight at rather loud volumes on a still night isn’t the best way to win the support of your neighbours, but hey, it’s a change from their loud sessions :)

Probably my Irish heritage but when the melancholy hits, it hits hard and booze really helps settle it down. At least with this session I didn’t do a true “blue funk” session and go through a whole bottle or two :)

Less upset today but still finding it hard to get motivated – getting the work done but it’s like I’m pushing up hill to do it.

Spun again at Strike on the weekend – this time Saturday and Sunday. Too much like fun :)

Thanks to a friend of mine, I scored a weekend for free at the Grand Hyatt here in Melbourne. (thanks Mark – I owe you yet again :)

Not a bad room and I made the most of it but the timing wasn’t the best – I had a number of things that kept me out most nights (friend’s birthday on Friday night, DJ’ing on Saturday night and another birthday party on Sunday night). Add to that the short notice (I only found out on the Friday) made it rather difficult to get someone to share it with and, well, yeah, it was fun and a great thing to have but…

C’est la vie and all that :)

Managed to survive the ConQuest roleplaying convention and even picked up another trophy (go me! :). I’m thinking of attending DWARFCon in July so I guess I’m hooked.

Working hard as usual although I still haven’t managed to connect hard work with good income but expect that I’ll get there eventually.

Survived ConQuest over Easter. Now to get ready for the next session with the kids this weekend…

At the ConQuest roleplaying convention over the Easter long weekend. I do it every year and each time it’s totally insane. Some of the crew come down from Brisbane and I make it a point to play in each of their freeforms. I’ve played in one session so far – a freeform based on the Goodies – pretty crazy times, that’s for sure :)

We’ve done three dance parties and one dinner social so far. I’ve been involved since the first party although I wasn’t officially working with the team then (I just wound up helping with visuals in the main area and running around making sure the DJ’s were kept happy). Now I’m working with Marlowe (the Director) to manage the company as well as events. He gives the ideas, sets the goals and puts in most of the energy to keep it going. I’ve got to keep everything focussed and progressing smoothly towards the goals.

We’ve already been through a few rough times and there are many more ahead of us before we get things going properly. It’s going to be one hell of a ride but I’m looking forward to doing it.

Revised membership system has been installed and everyone’s happy with how we’re working with the vendors. General support work taking a lot of time, but that’s to be expected.

Major downer was accidentally deleting about a week’s worth of data for one of the team – trying to do too many things at once and I didn’t make a backup before I started bringing his laptop over to our domain. One stupid mistake and whoops :(

Started the documentation project to ensure that information about how the network is configured and maintained is written down (incase I go under a bus, etc).

Also started working on a new Linux file server that’ll be using SAMBA. I’m recycling one of the really old NT servers that’s really not much better than a workstation but I’ve shoved more RAM in it. It’s still less powerful than the latest workstations we’re buying but there’s no budget for new gear and we need to split the file/print services and Domain Management off the main server (it needs all it’s power for data only).
